HRT
1. To review common HRT dilemmas including safe prescribing
2. To discuss the use of testosterone in women
3. To discuss some common queries arising from the practice of private HRT clinics
4. To review the management of unscheduled bleeding on HRT including upcoming G Care guidance

Sexual Health
1. To recognise the health threats from sexual ill health
2. To identify which sexual health tests can be done in practice and what tests needs a referral
3. To review the modern approach to HIV testing in primary care and the long term management of HIV
4. To recall that hormone deficiency may play a role in mood and general health in men and women

About the speaker

Dr Andrew de Burgh-Thomas
Genito-urinary medicine

Worked as a Trainee Scientific Officer for 4 years before starting a Biochemistry Degree at Imperial College, London. Self funded medical studies at the Royal Free Hospital, London Qualified in 1994 then completed his registrational year at the Royal Free Hospital. Started his Medical Speciality training at Oxford working for 2 years there as an SHO at Oxford Haemophilia Centre then at the John Warin Infectious Disease Ward. Two years as an SHO at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Roehampton gaining MRCP in 1998. Then worked for a year at St Johns Institute of Dermatology including HIV in patients care. Then Medical Registrar at Kings College Hospital rotating for 2 years to the Department of Sexual Health. Appointed as a Consultant in Gloucestershire in 2003 and in 2005 was asked to join the team at Southmead Bristol for HIV care and continues to provide on call provision to the South West via Southmead. Has developed research and has been involved in legion HIV trials and now submitting various bids for sexual health trials as well as designing in house research also. Appointed F2 speciality tutor in 2005 and Honorary Senior Lecturer to Bristol Medical School since 2005 also. In 2012 became Clinical Supervisor to GPSTs and in 2013 was made Training Programme Director for GU Medicine, Severn Deanery. In 2019 became Faculty Trainer for coil and implant insertion.

Dr Madhavi Vellayan
Consultant In Gynaecology

Dr Madhavi Vellayan graduated from University of Madras, India in 1992. She trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in various renowned centres in Yorkshire and underwent specialisation in Gynaecological Endoscopy in Jessop Hospital for Women, Sheffield. Dr Vellayan has a wide range of experience and interest in women's health issues ranging from gynaecological issues affecting children to period problems, subfertility, pelvic pain,ovarian cysts, prolapse, urinary incontinence and menopausal symptoms.

Special interests are: Menstrual disorders, Perimenopausal irregular bleeding, Postmenopausal bleeding,subfertility, Premenstrual syndrome, Pelvic pain, Endometriosis, Paediatric gynaecology, Ovarian Cysts, Vulval skin disorders and Vaginal discharge.
