o To outline the management of hearing loss in primary care including red flag symptoms/ signs and when to refer
o To be able to assess and manage vertigo and tinnitus and to discuss when to refer
o To review the management of facial palsy.
Neck and Throat Conditions (CH)
o To demonstrate the examination of the neck for lymphadenopathy
o To review the management of throat symptoms eg sore throat, hoarseness, swallowing difficulties and when/ how to refer
o To identify red flag symptoms and signs and when/ how to refer
Mr Matthew Clark
Consultant ENT surgeon and Otolaryngologist
Matt qualified in 1996 at University College London, having also gained a degree in Anatomy in 1993. His specialist training in Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose and Throat) surgery was in Oxford. He gained specialist accreditation with the General Medical Council in 2009, when he moved to Gloucestershire for his current NHS consultant appointment.
In addition to providing a general adult and paediatric ENT service, his special interest in conditions that affect the ear (Otology).
His work includes the management of:
Chronic middle ear disease (cholesteatoma, ear drum perforations, infections)
Hearing loss (children and adults)
Vertigo (dizziness related to the inner ear, including Ménière’s disease & BPPV)
Tinnitus
Facial palsy
Eustachian tube dysfunction
Diving associated medicine
Cholesteatoma:
Hearing loss (ossiculoplasty, bone anchored hearing aids)
Ear drum perforations (myringoplasty) (canalplasty, prominent ear surgery, skin lesion excisions)
Mr Charlie Hall
Consultant Otolaryngologist (Head & Neck Surgeon)
Charlie qualified in 1995 from St Bartholomew's Hospital, London. He attained specialist accreditation with the General Medical Council in 2009 following 8 years of specialist training in Bristol, Gloucester and the South West. In 2008 he undertook a one year fellowship in Head and Neck Cancer and Thyroid surgery in Melbourne, Australia. He returned in 2009 to take up his current NHS consultant appointment in Gloucestershire.
As well as general ENT his specialist interest is in throat, voice and swallowing problems and neck conditions including thyroid problems.
