About the speaker

Dr Sangita Kulkarni
Consultant Physician, Care of Elderly, Clinical Lead for frailty, Associate director of Medical Education

I have had the privilege of completing graduate and post graduate training from University of Pune, India. Despite the widely differing geographical, cultural and academic differences it provided a firm foundation for my specialist training in Geriatrics and GIM in Wessex Deanery. I joined Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a Consultant in Jan 2010. My sub specialty interests are Movement Disorders and Frailty. I am the clinical Lead for Frailty Services at GHFT and have helped set up the front door frailty assessment services at Gloucester Royal Hospital.
Frailty Assessment Service has been operating for last 11 years. It functions as a multi professional unit with a vibrant training and learning environment. It is heart warming to see our Trainees return to our services as senior decision makers.
Clinical experience on the Frailty Assessment Service has shaped my educator role. I am involved in education and training of Doctors in training, Physician associates, Nurse practitioners and pharmacists. I am involved in supporting International Medical Graduates within Gloucestershire Hospitals and have coordinated their induction and wellbeing programme over last 3 years. I see my role as an Associate Director of Medical Education over last 3 years as an extension of all of the above.

About the speaker

Dr Helen Alexander
Consultant in Old Age Medicine

About the speaker

Ellen Bennet
Parkinsons Disease CNS

I have worked within neurology as an adult nurse for 8 years after qualifying at the university west of England and have specialised in Parkinson’s for the last 2 after having an interest in the condition from my previous job as a carer and with if the ward environment. I have just completed the prescribing course for non medical prescribers. Recently I have reached out to the acute trust to try and spread training and understanding of the condition to improve patients care following on from the last Parkinson’s UK audit. I am aiming to spread this to the community hospitals within the county as well as the care homes for which many of our patients live in alongside my 3 colleagues.

About the speaker

Dr Claire Gibbons

ST6 Care of the Elderly
Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

After graduating from Keele Medical School in 2012 I stayed in the West Midlands to complete my SHO training. Following this, I took on a role as a Clinical Teaching Fellow in association with Warwick Medical School, working to deliver hands-on training in the acute specialties, whilst also completing a qualification in Medical Education. After some time travelling, I went on to work in the Highlands of Scotland, gaining exposure to rural and remote medicine.

Having realised my passion lay in Geriatric Medicine, I returned to the world of training as a Specialty Trainee in the Severn Deanery. Despite the initial challenge of training during a pandemic, I have been able to pursue a specialist interest in movement disorders, and have spent this academic year focusing on Movement Disorders and Frailty within the Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This has given me invaluable experience in managing older people with complex Parkinsonism, frailty and multimorbidity, which I hope to take forwards as a work towards completing my training.
