Rheumatology String of Pearls AM

Speakers: Dr Jessica Gunn, Alison Eamer, Dr Gill Coombes, Dr Safwan Jamal

The GGPET Committee have planned this session with Dr Jessica Gunn who will be joined by Alison Eamer, Rheumatology CNS and Drs Gill Coombes and Safwan Jamal..

1. To explain when to refer into the Early Inflammatory Arthritis Service (Dr Gill Coombes)

2. To recall the management of polymyalgia rheumatica and giant cell arteritis including when to refer (Dr Safwan Jamal)

3. To be able to make a diagnosis of fibromyalgia in primary care and signpost to supporting services and resources (Dr Jessica Gunn)

4. To discuss common advice and guidance queries

5. To identify the role of the rheumatology CNS and when to use the CNS advice line (Alison Eamer)

About the speaker

Dr Jessica Gunn

Dr Gunn trained in medicine at the University of Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff, qualifying in 2006. Her speciality training in Rheumatology and General Internal Medicine was undertaken in the Oxford and Thames Valley deanery, where she undertook an MSc in Musculoskeletal Science.Dr Gunn was appointed as a Consultant Rheumatologist in Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2019 and has an interest in connective tissue disease and vasculitis. She works across both sites CGH and GRH.

Alison Eamer
Rheumatology CNS

I am the lead Rheumatology nurse for GHNHSFT. I qualified as a nurse in 1992 after training in Frenchay , Bristol. I have worked in Rheumatology since qualifying, initially on the ward at Standish and then moved to Gloucester Royal where I managed the Rheumatology, Dermatology and Neurology ward. I moved into a Specialist Nurse role in 2007, gained my qualification as a non-medical prescriber in 2015 and became the service lead in 2017. Outside of work I enjoy participating in various forms of motor sport!

Dr Gill Coombes
Consultant Rheumatologist

Longest standing member of the Gloucestershrei rheumatologist. Long standing Interest in osteoporosis. Trained at University of Birmingham, rheumatology training in North west and Sheffield, Joined Gloucestershire in 1999. Helped set up bone density entry service, also has interest in inflammatory arthritis and help set up the EIA clinic in 2013.Based at GRH and community clinics in Fod

Dr Safwan Jamal
Consultant Rheumatologist

Joined Gloucestershire consultant team April 2021. He has an interest in osteoporosis medical education and teaching medical students. Primary Gloucester and FOD based.
