About the speaker

Richard Barksfield
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

Mr Barksfield completed his Medical Training at Imperial College London in 2006 and undertook undergraduate training in Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA.

Mr Barksfield spent the early years of his career working in Surrey and West London prior to commencing surgical training in Gloucestershire through which he was to the Cambridge Orthopaedic Rotation and subsequently the prestigious Bristol Orthopaedic Rotation gaining Fellowship to the Royal College of Surgeons.

Mr Barksfield undertook advanced fellowship training in Hip and Knee Surgery at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, an Institution with a world class reputation, and is a life member of the Girdlestones Orthopaedic Society. He has also completed an advanced fellowship in trauma at Southmead Hospital, the Major Trauma centre for the South-West, specialising in the management of the traumatised lower limb.

His NHS practice is based at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and he consults and operates privately at the Winfield Hospital, Gloucester.

Noel Peter
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

Mr Peter is a specialist upper limb surgeon who has been trained in internationally renowned surgical centres in the UK and Australia with an exclusive interest in hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder surgery. He is an expert in conservative and surgical management of problems affecting the upper limb.

He completed his basic surgical training at Oxford, before successfully securing a postgraduate training position at the distinguished Oxford Deanery Trauma and Orthopaedics Training Programme. Mr Peter has a particular interest in minimally invasive arthroscopic (key-hole) procedures as well as treatment of arthritis of the upper limb. He is also a specialist in all aspects of hand and peripheral nerve surgery (including microsurgery), elbow arthroscopy and arthroplasty with in depth specialisation in shoulder surgery (arthroscopy and arthroplasty).

Mr Peter regularly treats a number of sportsmen and sportswomen in the county and beyond. His interest in the treatment of sports injuries and rehabilitation of athletes lead him to securing a further postgraduate qualification in Sports and Exercise Medicine. At present, Noel is an active member of the United Kingdom’s Faculty of Sports of Exercise Medicine, and was conferred a Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine in 2012.

Rath Sundaram
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

Mr Sundaram was appointed as a Consultant Trauma, Orthopaedic and Spine Surgeon in Gloucestershire in 2010. He graduated from the University of Leeds Medical School and trained in the Liverpool Region, Nottingham and Exeter.

He is the Spinal Lead for Gloucestershire Hospitals since 2015.
